My paintings are loosely based upon the landscapes and seascapes of East Anglia where I live. Sometimes I sketch on site. Often I commit an image to memory, incorporating the simplest of ideas. In the studio I make several sketches from the memory, incorporating or abandoning bits of visual information.

From the sketches the paintings will take weeks, months (or sometimes years) to complete. Sometimes the sparsity of information enables the painting to develop well away from the sketch though it remains a valuable reference point throughout the whole process. The paintings are layered, and gestural. Paint gets scraped off, reapplied and so on, until I feel there is a balance of information, harmony and energy.

Amongst others I have been influenced by the works of Auerbach, Bomberg, Diebenkorn and Hilton.

My work has been widely exhibited in East Anglia and the UK and is held in collections worldwide. It can be seen at Folkes Miller Fine Arts and other galleries.
